በወቅቱ ገናና በነበረው የግዕዝ ቋንቋ ‹‹ሞዓ አንበሳ ዘእምነገደ ይሁዳ ግርማዊ ዮሐንስ ራብዓይ ሥዩመ እግዚአብሔር ንጉሠ ጽዮን ንጉሠ ነገሥት ዘኢትዮጵያ›› በሚል የክብር ማዕረግ ነበር ዓፄ ዮሐንስ በዓለ ሲመታቸውን የፈጸሙት፡፡
ዓፄ ዮሐንስ 4ኛ ጥር 13 ቀን 1864 ዓ.ም ነበር ንግሥና የፈጸሙት፡፡ ዓፄ ዮሐንስ ከእርሳቸው በፊት ከነበሩ ነገሥታት በተለየ ያልተማከለ አስተዳደርን ያስተዋወቁ ማለትም የየአካባቢዎችን ንጉሦች ዕውቅና የሰጡ እንደነበሩ የታሪክ ማሥረጃዎች ያስረዳሉ፡፡In the Geez language that was still in use at the time, Emperor Yohannes used the honorific title “Moa Anbesa Zemnegd Yehudah germawey Yohannes Rabaey Seyoume God King of Tsion King of Ethiopia” when he celebrated his birthday. Emperor Yohannes IV reigned on January 13, 1864. According to historical evidence, Emperor Yohannes, unlike the kings before him, promoted decentralization, that is, he recognized the kings of each area.
