Ancient Science and Technology from Ethiopia and the rest of Africa presents a new and radical approach to the history of Africa in general, and to Ethiopia in particular. Rather than recounting the rise and fall of great rulers and dynasties, the book presents the sciences and the technologies of early Africa. Focusing on the metallurgy, mathematics, astronomy, medicine and architecture of Africa, the authors show a great heritage that modern African men and women of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics can and should build upon. The book will inspire new generations to aspire to the greatness that the ancestors achieved.
Africans have contributed excellence in scientific thinking, but this contribution has usually been minimised or ignored by historians. With the publication of this book, the omissions have been corrected. The book synthesises the known data into an accessible account of African technological heritage. As such, it deserves a place in every Ethiopian school, library, and institution.
